I'm not going to lie, this dress was a grab and buy impulse purchase. The sale rack at Anthropologie literally gets me every time. If stylish clothes at half the price isn't your jam, I honestly don't know if we're even friends...
Now I'm not usually down on myself about my body, but I am highly aware of what styles flatter my body type, and which don't. A tight knit maxi dress can go oh so wrong, oh so quick...
However, I grabbed this dress one size up (mostly because I liked the material, stripes, and price) and accidentally stumbled upon a great style hack when I brought it home and tried it on. The sizing up trick actually allowed me to bunch it up in all the right places so it was less body con, more casual/comfortable. I wrapped a jean jacket around my waist to camouflage my mid section and accessorized it with a longer necklace to break up the look a little and add interest.
I have to admit this is one of my favorite looks to date! I think a few key factors play into this surprise hit:
1) I didn't labor over this look, I went with my gut and didn't overthink it.
2) I can almost guarantee that 9 times out of 10 I'm going to feel confident in a maxi dress. Find a style that works for you and keep going back to that well.
3) Having great shoes and accessories on hand can quickly pull a look together and help define your personal style. Find a few pieces that you LOVE and keep using them.
